Basic steps to creat your own ringtones and message alert tones for the LG Rumor Touch on the Virgin Mobile network. You must have an SD card inserted into your phone for this to work.

  1. Select the sound file you wish to use as a ringtone. Make sure the file is no more than about 15 seconds long. You can use MP3 files for sure, and most other comon audio file types are supposedly supported.
  2. For incoming call ringtones, change the filename extension to "3G2", then save the file to your phone's SD card. From the phone's "home" menu, select "tools", then select "mass storage", then select "file manager", then locate the ringtone file but don't click it yet. Click "more", then click "assign". Now click the ringtone, then click "incoming calls". Next, select the type of calls that you wish to use this ringtone for. Repeat for each desired ringtone and call type.
  3. For incoming message and voicemail ringtones, change the soundfile's extension to "QCP", then attach it to an email addressed to your Rumor Touch's phone number@vmpix.com (1234567890@vmpix.com as an example). I recommend sending just one attachment at a time. When you open the email as a message on your phone, scroll down the message til you see "Voice:". Open the attachment by clicking on the attachment symbol, which looks like a small speaker over a piece of notebook paper. After opening, click "Set as Ringer", then select the type of call or other alert to use this ringtone with.

That's all there is to it! I've used this method successfully a number of times for my Virgin Mobile Rumor Touch phone.
